The video was taken intraoperatively through one of our surgical microscopes. You are seeing exactly what the neurosurgeons sees through the microscope. It shows the removal of disc material from beneath the spinal cord. The spinal cord runs from right to left across the screen. The neurosurgeon's surgical instrument gently teases the disc material from beneath the spinal cord. As you watch the video, you will be able to see the disc material compressing the spinal cord and how the spinal cord returns to a more normal cylindrical shape once the disc material is removed. The amount of bleeding seen is normal. The blood in the surgical field and the disc material are suctioned away continuously during the procedure. The video may be too graphic for some people to view.
